Diamond State Concert Band

Who we are

The Diamond State Concert Band is a non-profit, tax-exempt, all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing free concerts to our community and to providing a place for musicians to practice their skills. In our 25+ years of existence, we have played over 350 concerts to a total audience in excess of 750,000 in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

History

The Band was founded in 1976 by Alfred J. Belak as the Mt. Pleasant Community Band. The first rehearsals were at Mt. Pleasant High School, and the Band, with 35 members, played its first concert on July 4 of that year in Claymont, Delaware. Other early rehearsal sites have included Hanby Jr. High and St. David's Episcopal Church. In 1984, the band changed its name to the Diamond State Concert Band to reflect the regional nature of its membership and audience.
